The $188 million-revenue Project Management Institute has retained Heidrick & Struggles to search for a new CEO to replace Mark Langley.

The Newtown Square, Pa.-based PMI announced last month that Langley would retire by Nov. 30.

PMI said in its statement that the new CEO would implement a new strategic plan and lead a digital transformation. Internal and external candidates will be considered.

"The dynamic leader shall oversee the implementation of a new strategic plan and guide the organization toward a future designed to help thousands of project professionals around the world accelerate their careers and make ideas a reality," the group said.

Langley led the group for nearly eight years. His last reported compensation was $885,000.

"I am honored to have led PMI through the last several years of significant growth as we approach the Institute's 50th anniversary," Langley said in last month's statement. "As PMI continues through its digital transformation, this is a good time to begin transitioning to leadership that will drive the Institute to even greater heights in its next half century."

PMI Chair Caterina La Tona praised Langley for boosting international operations.

"Mark has helped PMI become the strong global organization it is today," she said.

The group said it has 300 chapters and members in nearly every country. More than 750,000 people have earned certification as a Project Management Professional, or PMP.
